Music at First Presbyterian Church
Music is an integral part of worship at First Presbyterian Church. Under the leadership of Robert Smith, Director of Music and Organist, music is offered to the glory of God and the edification of one another through hymns, spiritual songs, and congregational singing. The voice of the congregation raised in song is ultimately our most important musical offering in worship.
Chancel Choir
The Chancel Choir is open to men and women of high school age and older. In addition to presenting anthems, the choir supports and leads congregational singing during worship.
Rehearsals are held Wednesday evenings from 7:00–8:00 p.m. (occasionally longer) from September through June. The choir also meets during the 10:00 hour on Sunday mornings for warm-up and preparation.
No audition is required.
Chancel Ringers
The Chancel Ringers share music in worship throughout the year using five octaves of handbells and four octaves of handchimes.
Rehearsals are Wednesdays from 5:45–6:45 p.m. during the ringing season, which typically runs from September through May.
Instruments & Worship Leadership
Our music ministry is blessed with an Aeolian-Skinner pipe organ, two Yamaha grand pianos, studio pianos, timpani, and a variety of percussion instruments.
These resources support worship throughout the year and provide opportunities for musicians to share their gifts.
Opportunities to Participate
Opportunities are available throughout the year for vocalists, instrumentalists, small ensembles, and guest musicians. Summer worship often includes soloists, duets, and other special musical offerings.
Musicians from both the congregation and the wider community are welcome to inquire about participating.
Join the Music Ministry
Whether you are an experienced musician or simply enjoy singing, we invite you to share your gifts through the music ministry of First Presbyterian Church.
